This article is a very special one to me as I will be sharing with you my personal love story. From where and how I met my partner until the moment our little one was born.
It all started in Berlin, Germany in December 2009. Sara (my partner) and I were invited for dinner at a friend's house in Celsiusstrasse in South Berlin. Around 10 people were present that night, but for me I could only see one person: Sara.
We were both in our early 20s and on a Erasmus year to finish our Bachelor degree. I am myself from France and Sara is originally from Portugal.
I remember having a lot of fun in this dinner party and interacting with a bunch of different people from all over the world. A cosmopolitan atmosphere is what makes your Erasmus year special and allow you to open your eyes towards the whole world.
That night, I tried engaging a conversation with Sara, but to be honest I was not very successful. Sara did not seem very interested in having a proper chat with me, maybe we were too drunk or maybe she heard things about me, I wasn't too sure at the time.
Anyway, I quickly forgot about it and moved on thinking it is a lost battle.
3 months later, in March 2010, I just landed from Marseilles to Berlin after a 2 week family trip in my home town. At the airport, 5 of my friends were waiting for me, all smiling and happy, it really made me feel blessed as I was not expecting to see them at all.
Here we go, we were ready to "party hard"; that is another advantage of being a student abroad, you get to party much more than what you actually study.
Anyway, direction Celsiusstrasse again for an awesome party at my polish friend's house.
As soon as I get there, try to guess who I meet again ? Sara.
This time, I decided to play the indifferent and not engaging any sort of conversation as I had in mind the last bad experience.
We all had fairly a few drinks, then we went to a club called "Matrix".
Everything was getting blurry, everybody was dancing, the nightclub's lighting was very dimmed and flickering. No need to say we were having a great time !
After some point, we all got close to each other and I started dancing with Sara, then getting closer and closer and we ended up kissing.
We spent a good part of that night together dancing and kissing. We then left and all had our ritual "The McDonald meal of 6am": Fast food after a long night out, then we all went home in seperate ways.
The day after I woke up happy, confused, thinking of Sara and what shall I do. I then waited until late afternoon to send her a message. I asked her out a second time, she acepted and this is how it all started.
We were officially dating and there was really a special attraction, a special something between us, it was hardly explainable.
We knew we had 4 months left in Berlin before leaving to our respective countries but we could not help it, we were spending a lot of time together and I guess slowly falling in love.
After a week only, I offered Sara to move to my studio apartment as I could not see myself spending hours without her. The feeling was mutual, she accepted and moved in.
We then started exploring Germany together by visiting Bremen, Leipzig and Potsdam. Time was flying and we knew that we will need to leave Germany in order to validate the completion of our BA degree.
The moment that we were fearing arrived, it was July 2010 and it was time to say goodbye to each other. I personally could not cope and promised Sara I will join her as soon as I am done with my University paperwork.
A month and a week after that promise, I am landing in Porto, Portugal and Sara is waiting for me at the airport. Our journey can finally continue but this time in a different country.
10 months later, we did continue the adventure in Madeira, Portugal for three months.
We then moved to Marseilles, France for 9 months, then moved to Bristol for a year. We went back to France for another 6 months and finally moved to Manchester.
We have been living in Manchester for 2 years now and our baby "Matteo" is 11 months old.
In a week time, another life change will happen as we love traveling and living all around the world. We will make sure this passion is conveyed to our little one.
Erasmus brought us adventure, life experience and Love, it transformed me completely and I will never regret my choice.
Who could believe that a portuguese citizen will meet a french one in Germany and live in 4 different countries, 6 different cities in a matter of 6 years time.
This is my love story. I am planning to write another article about our trips around Europe. I hope you enjoyed it, if you did, please share it or hit the like button.

Take care.
