How to sell successfully on Ebay: 10 Tips and Tricks

I am about to share below 10 tips about how to sell efficiently on Ebay and how to have a better ranking in best match search results:

1) Take your own pictures:

Taking your own pictures is essential not to fall into Cassini's (Ebay search engine) trap. If you have downloaded the product image from another seller or from Google, Ebay search engine will detect it and won't rank you as good as a freshly taken new picture. It will allow you to gain visibility. Upload at least 3 pictures and make sure they are clear (with a white background preferably) and use as much as natural light as possible.

2) Offer the most competitive price:

I have realised that if you offer a very high price compared to the competition, Ebay will think that you are very unlikely to sell your product and will rank you at the bottom of the search.
Ebay always thinks about profit: the more you sell, the more fees they will receive from you.

3) Having good feedbacks:

Ebay always ranks sellers according to their overall feedback score. Make sure you are the closest to 100% to be ranked at the top of the search. Powersellers and Top Rated Sellers will always have an advantage and be placed first.

4) Multiple variation listings + Good till cancelled format:

Using multiple variation listings in conjuction with good till cancelled format will allow you to attract more customers and save on your ad the sold items. Ebay will recognise that you have sold a few and will rank you higher on the search.

5) Keyword Tool

Use a keyword tool to find out the most used words in the research. You do not need to guess, only search in the right place and use those keywords in your ad. I personally recommend Google Keyword Planner, it is free and easy to use, you will need a Google Adwords account first. Please find the link below:

6) The more sold, the more visibility on Best Match results:

Hence the use of Good til' Cancelled format. I have explained more in depth in point 4)

7) Use “Sell similar” button instead of “Relist”:

Apparently it helps boosting your listing as the algorithm remains unchanged when the "Sell similar" button is used. Relist will cancel your algorithm and create a new one which will bring you back to square one.

8) The more watchers, the more visibility on Best Match results:

Watch your own items and get as many watchers as possible. Ebay likes hot items and the most watched counts a lot in Cassini algorithm. I have even seen Youtube videos created in order to get your items watched by viewers. The purpose is to get more traffic on your ads.

9) Auction starting price should be 30% of the final wished selling price

If you wish to sell your item for £10, make sure to start the bid at £3. Starting the bid at 30% has been proven to reach the wished final price successfully.

10) High conversion rate

The last but most important point > Make sure to list only items that sell. The sale conversion rate is the amount of sales compared to the amount of listed items. Ebay likes when most of your items get sold which means they will make more money out of you and will end up ranking you higher.
If you have realised that some items have not been sold after 2 or 3 months, stop selling them.
The main objective of your seller account is to reach 100% sale conversion rate. One listing equals one sale. If you manage to do that, you will gain more visibilty and then more sales.
